Estate Cleanouts for Out-of-State Executors: Clearing a Metro Atlanta Home Remotely

    Updated October 4, 2026 • 6 min read

Handling an estate from another state is stressful. You may only be in town for a weekend, or not at all. This guide shows how to clear a metro Atlanta home without being there for every step.

Step 1: Confirm you can authorize the cleanout

Before anything leaves the house, make sure you are the executor or have the family's go-ahead. If the estate is in probate, check with your attorney about what can be removed and when.

Step 2: Mark what the family keeps

Do a walkthrough, in person or on video with a relative or realtor. Set aside keepsakes, photos, documents, and anything going to family members.

    • Use colored tape or sticky notes on items that stay
    • Move kept items to one room and tell us to skip it
    • Search drawers, closets, and pockets for papers and valuables
    • Take photos of each room for your records

    Step 3: Arrange access

You do not have to be on site. Share a lockbox code, a key with a neighbor or realtor, or meet the crew on a video call at the start. Include gate codes, parking notes, and whether utilities are on.

Step 4: Book and get the price up front

Most full homes are priced by trailer space, from $99 for 1/8 of a trailer to $649 for a full trailer, plus the $49 area service fee. Larger homes may need more than one load. You see the price before you book.

Need it done quickly? Big Boys offers same-day and next-day service, plus flexible scheduling around your travel dates or closing.

Step 5: Donation, recycling, and a broom-swept finish

Usable furniture and household goods are donated when practical, and metal and electronics are recycled. When the crew is done, the cleared rooms are swept so the home is ready for a realtor, cleaner, or buyer.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be there for the estate cleanout?

No. With clear access instructions and the kept items marked or set aside, the crew can clear the home while you are out of town.

Can you work with our realtor or attorney?

Yes. Share their contact details and we can coordinate access and timing with them.

What if the house is full?

Full homes are common. We price by trailer space, and larger homes can take more than one load, which we confirm before work begins.
